Andhra Vidyalaya College of Arts, Science and Commerce, popularly known as A. V. College, is an educational institution located in Hyderabad, India. The college offers undergraduate graduate and post graduate courses. It is accredited with A grade by NAAC.
A.V.C College belongs to the A.V Charity founded by Sri S. Ramalingam Pillai in 1806 in memory of his son Thiru Velayutham Pillai. A.V. Charities began its educational services by starting this college in 1955 under the Madras University, followed by A.V.C Polytechnic in 1983 and A. V. C. College of Engineering in 1996.
Vidyalaya Education Society one of the oldest and pioneer educational society in the erstwhile Nizam State of Hyderabad, was started in 1944 at Kattelamandi (now Gagan Mahal) as a small school by its founder was Konda Venkata Ranga Reddy, former Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.The A.V. College was established in 1968 as a composite college offering plus two and UG courses. It grew to occupy the status of a multidimensional institution with PG courses.
The PG courses were first offered in the year 1991. K.V. Ranga Reddy Law College was set up in the same year.
The College offers undergraduate (BA, B.Com, B.Sc) and postgraduate (MA, M.Com, MCA, MBA, M.Sc) courses in various domains. AV College is affiliated to the Osmania University Domalguda, Hyderabad.
The college offers both Day and Evening programmes
The Day College offers undergraduate majors in English, History, Economics, Commerce, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, and taught postgraduate degrees in Economics, Commerce, Mathematics and Wildlife Biology. It also offers research degrees (MPhil and PhD) in Zoology, Commerce, Economics, Tamil, Botany (PhD only), History (PhD only), Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science (MPhil only).
The Evening College offers undergraduate majors and taught postgraduate degrees in Commerce, Computer Science, Electronic Science, Physics, Chemistry, Microbiology, Home Science (undergraduate only), Mathematics, Visual Communication (undergraduate only), Biotechnology, Business Administration (undergraduate only), Commercial Administration, Tamil, English, Botany (postgraduate only) and Zoology (postgraduate only); it also offers various diploma and certificate courses.
The Management of the College has been stewarded by great luminaries like the late Justice K. Madhava Reddy, former Chief Justice of High Courts of Telangana and Maharashtra. The present Management Committee consists of Sri.K. Pratap Reddy, a Senior Advocate of Telangana High Court, as the President, Prof. K. Ramchandra Reddy, an eminent Professor of Psychology, as the Vice-President,Prof. G. Prakash Reddy as the Secretary and Dr. K. Gautami, as the correspondent.
The Magazine India Today has consecutively rated A.V. College is one of the best colleges in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
